*Intro
I have made a post that told not to strained myself. I put a load on my own shoulder like 'come on, some game, some GOTY, some Rihanna, some SNSD, etc' and I realize I restrain myself that way. Hey it's my blog, I'm free to write anything and not to write anything. If I write for some website say 'allkpop or IGN' I do have responsibility, but in my own blog? The responsibility is close to none. So I'm gonna reviewing a korean EP which belongs to my favorite racoon leader JeA which belongs to (again) my favorite girl group Brown Eyed girls
**Warning this review only represent my opinion only, feel free to voice yours
Yupz, that's the playlist, if you can read Hangul. I'm trying not to beat around the bush this time, I'll just gonna say that for me JeA is the best main singer from all Korean girl group and I'm just really glad that she released a solo album that will do her justice. This marks the end, every single Brown Eyed Girls has released their own solo album. I just hope Big Bang and Brown Eyed Girls will survive long, because they are just ... I am just speechless, they are inspirational, and what entertainment agency should learn. Sadly until now I haven't seen anyone that could be their succesor. Okay enough let's get to the album.
1. Days & Nights (feat. Eric Benet)
I would say that this is a perfect opening track. An opening track doesn't need to elaborate or grand, they just have to be catchy enough to make listener continue to hear the album. AND the track does it job really good. The song itself is Latin with R&B infusion, it makes me remember the old J-lo and Marc Anthony, Eric and JeA's voice fit perfectly and they sound really good despite the language border. Everytime JeA sings inenglish Eric will accompany her so does the opposite so they really cover their weakness. The lyric itself is interesting, okay, I love it, although a bit gloomy for first track. Well I love it, need I say more?
2. 길고양이
This is very very Brown Eyed Girls before 2008. A loyal listener of BEG will recognize this kind of melody, lyrics, it feels nostalgic. I can't say more since the first sentence conclude all, the R&B feel, the instrument, the notes and even the key slightly same. But this is a really good second track, because usually second track tend to be not really good so props girls love you.
3. 그대가 잠든 사이
This is it guys the title track, now let me first reviewing the song. I think the song is AHMAAZIINGG. I grew up with Mariah, Whitney, Bon Jovi, Air Supply, Celine, Queen, and the list still goes on. This is classic, the choir, the electric guitar at the bridge, the belting, the drum rolls at the intro, the semi band semi orchestra. Even the lyric is so beautifully made. Hearing this song rmakes me remember Making Love Out of Nothing at All or It's All Coming Back to Me arrggghhh the memory. I just have to say that JeA's voice and technique really taylor made for this kind of song.
As for the MV itself, it's a great effort in making something old into modern (more modern at least). Just see it, this like Lena Park In Dreams or old Mariah Carey MV, in fact it remembers me with one of Celine's MV but I forget the title. I just hope maybe the color palette will be more grayer(?) maybe, so it feels like some Tim Burton's movie.
4. 안아보자 (feat. 정엽)
Now the fourth track guys and strangely this track sounds like some Brown Eyed Soul's material. The differences in sound is not really clear so maybe I'm just dreaming, but really I think this one is really fit to enter one of Brown Eyed Soul's album. Once again it's a good thing, and the vocals is so smooth I'm gonna cry, auhhh they are really great singing a duet love you guys.
5. Silent Stalker (feat. Double K)
The final track. Usually the fnal track doesn't need to be catchy or likeable, but I has to leave an impact, an impression like "this is it". That's why singer always put something a bit different for the last track, and JeA did. I don't know what impact JeA wants us to capture, because it's so electronical (I don't know how to say it). I thought JeA will leave an impression like 'I am JeA the diva' or 'This is the real Brown Eyed Girls material' or 'I love you guys so much let me give you a present song' but instead she gives us alternative dance hip hop. And honestly the impression I capture is 'The old Brown Eyed Girls is gone and this thing will be the future us'. Oh it's not bad, the song is not bad, just very different from the others it's a bit confusing.
I really think the tracks really do the album title some justice. The track is Just JeA, a lot of ballad, classic feel with powerful vocals, R&B which JeA and the other BEG members used to do. It's funny right how we can see an individual persona with an album that they produce. Miryo's album contain this strong feminime vibe in spite of the strong vibe she always shows, so does G-Dragon whose solo album is have different feeling with Big Bang's material. Also Park Bom's solo is very very different with 2NE1's material. And this album is Just JeA, a diva whose find her way here through a girl group called Brown Eyed Girls, good job girl.
P.S. : btw there are no weak tracks, every single bit of them are worth to hear. Oh and also please watch JeA interviewed herself in this Loen's video it's so funny
